Academics & Sports Program
usscouts.org
The Academics and Sports Program supplements the advancement programs of Cub Scouting. The program provides encouragement and rewards for Cub Scouts that explore any of 40 different academics and sports areas included in the program.

This program is available to all Tiger Cubs, (Wolf & Bear) Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts. Some Webelos Activity Badge requirements include completion of Academics and Sports belt loop or pin requirements.

While belt loops and pins can be earned more than once (such as when working toward a Webelos activity badge), duplicate belt loops or pins are not awarded. This is to encourage scouts to explore a greater variety of activities or continue with the more advanced requirements for the pins.

The primary focus of the program is on scholarship and sportsmanship.

Belt Loop Requirements

Belt loop requirements generally involve completion of three exploration activities. For academics, these requirements usually include learning new terms and completing some basic activities. For sports, these requirements usually include learning the rules, practicing skills, and playing a game.

Pin Requirements

Pins reward boys who continue beyond the basics, learning more about the academic area or sport and developing related skills. The academic and sports "letter" patch shown to the right is awarded when the first pin is earned and can be used to hold pins.
