Intro to Boy Scouts
When a boy has completed the second grade or is 9 years old and has earned the Bobcat Badge, he may work towards the Bear Badge. Bear Cubs are growing in independence and have more options for completing their rank requirements.

Bear Rank Requirements
Bear Cubs must complete 12 of 24 achievements, including one God achievement, three Country, four Family and four Self. As with wolf cubs, bear cubs will complete some family-related achievements at home.

Bear Cubs may also earn Arrow Points to wear on their uniforms after completing the Bear Rank requirements. A gold arrow point is awarded for the first 10 electives completed. A silver arrow point is awarded for each additional 10 electives. Requirements from achievements that were not used to earn the Bear Badge may be counted as electives, but unused requirements from achievements that were used towards the Bear Badge may not be counted as electives.

Scouts who complete Achievement 19 - Shavings and Chips will earn their Whittling Chip.
