Webelos Badge & Arrow of Lightusscouts.org - Webelos Badge usscouts.org - Arrow of Light usscouts.org - Webelos Activity Badges Webelos Scouts are working toward transitioning to Boy Scouts. This is approximately a 20 month program, beginning with graduation from the Bear Rank and ending with the Blue and Gold dinner held in February or March (a year and a half later). Parents are less involved at this level, but may still be needed to nudge the boys a bit. Parents should also ask the den leader if there is any way they can help the den with the many Webelos activity badges. The varying talents and expertise of the scout parents is an excellent resource for the den. Webelos Activity Badge & Rank Requirements The Webelos Rank requirements include 3 activity badges (including Fitness and Citizen) and some scouting & faith-related requirements. The Arrow of Light requires an additional 5 activity badges (including Readyman and Outdoorsman), additional knowledge of scouting, and participation in some introductory Boy Scout activities. Completing additional activity badges allows a Webelos Scout to earn compass points and a scout can earn a special Super Achiever patch for completion of all 20 activity badges. Preparing for Boy Scouts The minimum age for joining Boy Scouts is 11 years old unless the boy is 10 years old and has either completed the 5th grade or earned his Arrow of Light Award. Our boys typically bridge in March after the Blue & Gold, so completing the Arrow of Light Award by that time is important for those that plan to join a Boy Scout troop. Once the transition to a Boy Scout troop has been made, no more Cub Scout awards may be earned. During the Webelos program, the scouts should be checking out local troops to decide which one they want to join when they bridge to Boy Scouts. Many scouts from Pack 352 continue their scouting in Troop 352, which also meets at St. Francis, but scouts should look around and find the troop that best suits their interests. |
